On 1st March 2014, WNST Chief Executive, Stewart Goshawk, was delighted to attend the first ever lighting of the Paralympic Heritage Flame at Stoke Mandeville – the birthplace of the Paralympic movement. The flame will be taken to Sochi, where it will be combined with others lit across Russia and will burn above the Paralympic Winter Games.
This ceremony, which will form an integral part of all future Paralympics, both the summer and winter, recognises the important role played by Britain and Stoke Mandeville in the creation of the now worldwide Paralympic movement.
Thanks to the British Paralympic Association, the Buckinghamshire Legacy Board and Wheelpower for such a memorable occasion. To see a full report visit the Paralympic website here.
