Stewart has a long career in the charitable grant making world, in central and local government, as well as more than 25 years in various charitable foundations, including as Principal Grants Officer at The City Bridge Trust Head of Secretariat of the London Bombings Relief Fund and the volunteer Head of Operations at the London Emergencies Trust.
An all-round sports enthusiast, Stewart has helped run local cricket and badminton clubs for many years. He spends far too much time watching football and cricket on TV and is a long-suffering QPR fan. He is also a director and shareholder of Grays Athletic FC, his local supporter-owned, non-league football club. He claims to be willing to give (almost) any sport a try!
Stewart is currently Honorary Secretary of the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (having previously been chair of Essex Wildlife Trust) and chair of the Biffa Awards Scheme, one of the national landfill tax community grant-making trusts.
